Last Sunday, we enjoyed yet another delight in our church. We welcomed four new members, two of which made public profession of faith in Jesus by baptism the previous Sunday. In an hour of burden and weakness in many churches, the Lord brings bright spots to encourage our faith and church. It’s a beautiful thing.

At Paramount Church, we hold to a meaningful brand of church life. We call it covenant church membership. Christians join our church by committing together to a covenant of promises we make to one another. Church membership covenant here.

The member covenant follows the four values of our church: gospel, change, community, and mission. By joining the church, Christians covenant together as our local church body, promising to fulfill the covenant to God’s glory and the good of one another. We commit to represent the gospel well with our words and works. We commit to pursue spiritual growth together. We commit to care for one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. We commit to link arms as ambassadors of God’s mission to bring salvation to the world.

This covenant directs our attitude and actions in the church. It helps us move forward as a faith-filled family, preferring one another and working together for real hope and change in our lives and communities. It helps us glorify God in ways consistent with our calling.

The covenant is so important to our church we review it every Sunday on which new members are presented. Full membership process here. If we lose sight of our covenant commitments of church membership, trouble comes. Our enemy the devil provokes the remaining in our hearts to elevate secondary or tertiary matters over the primary mission of the church, and of our Christian lives in the world. The clear promises of healthy church membership major on the majors and minor on the minors.

And beyond the big ticket items of our mission, our common commitments in the covenant fuel the mundane and daily ministry of the church. These promises make meals for the sick in our church. These promises make fellowship flourish in community group life. These promises make us faithful singers and listeners on Sunday morning. These promises make us text one another during the week with words of encouragement and requests for prayer.

Covenant church membership is key and it’s a beautiful thing. The next new member class is scheduled for this Saturday, September 12 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Let us know you’re coming and we’ll make room for you.
