In my Sunday message, I challenged our church to consider how we each can walk with God to please Him. As a church, we believe in no higher calling than to glorify God and enjoy Him as the treasure of our hearts. We do this by walking, day by day, with our King who lavished His grace on us.
Knowing about God holds great value, but is not the ultimate end of the Christian life. The highest aim of God’s people is to know Him, not only to know about Him. For many of us, a significant change awaits. We need daily to turn our knowledge about God into knowledge of God. The great J.I. Packer explained how this shift occurs:
“The rule for doing this is simple but demanding. It is that we turn each Truth that we learn about God into matter for meditation before God, leading to prayer and praise to God.”
As a reminder from Sunday, I encourage us to pursue our happiness in Him and His gifts, to His glory. But we need a practical plan. I again suggest at the beginning of each day, we identify 1 or 2 good gifts clearly given to us by God. Can you think even right now of one good gift God has given you by faith in Jesus? I’m sure you can.
Begin each each identifying a couple gifts like the one you’re thinking about now. Then, write one sentence on how you will enjoy each gift today. Finish the sentence, “I will enjoy this gift by_________.” Even a simple plan like this can help us focus on what matters, and pursue our joy in Christ, who is the treasure of our hearts.
Will you practice this plan each day this week? Remember, if you hear the challenge of our Sunday morning messages but do not practice the truth God gives, you will not change or grow. But if you do, look out! God will infuse with grace and power your diligent efforts to please and know Him.
This week in your Community Group meeting, you will have the opportunity to share with others how you are practicing the truth. And you will be encouraged to hear how God is working in your Paramount brothers and sisters.
