Who are you waiting on today?
In difficult times of waiting, we must remember who we are waiting on. The Psalms remind us that we hope in whom we wait. Repeatedly, the psalmist cries out:
How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? (Psalm 13:1)
Because he hopes in God, he waits on God.
But in the waiting rooms of life, amnesia comes easy. We fill in blanks like mad libs.
How long, O __________? Will you ____________ forever?
How long, O spouse? Will you hog the TV forever?
How long, O child? Will you pepper me with whys forever?
How long, O winter? Will you frost my plants forever?
How long, O Amazon? Will you prioritize essential goods forever?
How long, O stimulus check? Will you avoid my account forever?
How long, O government? Will you order us home forever?
How long, O vaccine-maker? Will you test in the lab forever?
How long, O justice department? Will you delay your verdict forever?
In an ultimate sense, I hope in whom I wait. You hope in whom you wait.
If by grace we hope in God, then by grace we wait on God. Who are you waiting on today?
